EXCERPT: Surveillance Cameras

Federal, state and local laws are always playing catch-up when it comes to technology, and camera surveillance is new enough where it needs years of study before laws can be written that protect the good guys.

For now, we are allowed – in all municipalities I’ve studied – to position cameras anywhere on our property, pointed outward toward any location, be the target a public space or a neighbor’s private exterior property.  If your local police or other authority orders you to take down a camera you’re using to track the misdeeds of your Neighbor From Hell, ask for the law that prohibits your camera use.  Or call the ACLU; it’s become a leftist organization but still champions individual rights in many cases, and those aren’t always the rights of the criminals.
